Baby Guin - Month 4

January 1st

Happy New Year and Hello 2nd trimester!! It's so crazy to think that roughly 6 months from now, we will actually have a little baby! The past couple of months since we found out have seemed to have flown by, but at the same time, July still feels likes it's ages away.

Baby keeps growing and growing, and is now about 3.5 inches long (about the size of a beet/lemon/peach), and weighs about 1.5 ounces. Baby is now growing hair (though based on how Josh and I looked as babies, probably not much on his/her head, haha!), and other body systems keep getting better and better at their job.

As for me, my bump is definitely becoming more noticeable, and so my regular clothes are not very comfy. So I bought my first pairs of leggings and I LOVE them! I don't know why I did have these earlier because they are the softest, comfiest things ever! Overall I'm feeling the best I have in a couple of months - more energy, more liking of food again, less heartburn. It's a good feeling!

15 weeks! I definitely feel like this baby bump has grown a lot the past couple of weeks, and I've found myself resting my hands under it when I'm sitting. Someone mentioned to me the other day that I'm almost halfway, and that caught both Josh and I off guard - we are almost halfway! It doesn't feel like we should be since July still feels so far away.

Baby keeps growing like a weed and is now about 4 inches long (the size of a navel orange or avocado), and has almost doubled in weight at about 2.5 ounces. Baby's eyes and ears are almost to their final spots on its face, and he/she keeps moving its cute little arms and legs around in preparation to start kicking me. Baby is also starting to practice breathing by breathing amniotic fluid in and out of its lungs. Got to get those lungs nice and strong!

This last week, any nausea I had in the first trimester has now been replaced with ravenous hunger. I seriously feel like I eat all the time! The other day, for example, I ate a good dinner before going to work for the night, and before I even made the 35 minute drive to the hospital, I was starving again! I feel like a need to have a cooler of snacks with me everywhere I go, haha! On the downside, I've also started getting more headaches, so I've really been trying to drink a lot of water.

For my birthday Josh asked what I wanted, and I told him that all I could think about what baby stuff and, of course, anything Harry Potter. So he was a genius and combined the two by getting this super cute vinyl wall decoration to stick over Baby's crib!

Also, I've also had a mild obsession with anything with foxes on it lately, and so my wonderful mother-in-law got these cute pajamas for Baby!

We get to hear baby's heartbeat again at our appointment tomorrow, and we're so excited!!

January 15th

Happy Sunday everyone, and happy 16 weeks! We had our most recent doctor visit last Monday, and we certainly have an active little baby. When Dr. Leavitt was trying to listen to Baby's heartbeat, Baby kept moving around, so he could only get a few beats at a time before having to try again, haha! After a few times, he finally was able to get a good solid heartbeat, and everything sounded great! I still haven't felt any of these active little movements yet, but it shouldn't be much longer!

As you can tell by my not so subtle bump, Baby just keeps getting bigger! Now about the size of an avocado, Baby is about 4.5 inches long and weighs around 3.5 ounces! That still seems so small, but it's crazy to think of how much Baby has also grown over the past couple of months.

Besides moving like crazy, Baby can now hear my heartbeat and some sounds from outside my belly, as well as detect changes in light. Talking to my belly still sounds weird to me right now, but hopefully Baby enjoyed listening to the sounds of Rogue One when Josh and I finally got to see it last night :)

My ravenous hunger seems to have gone away for the time being, but I've still been getting more headaches, so visiting the chiropractor and having Josh massage my shoulders is quickly becoming two of my favorite things. But all in all, the easiness of the second trimester seems pretty much underway (knock on wood), and we're just counting down the days until we get to find out Baby's gender, which will be in about a month!!

January 22nd

Happy 17 weeks! I can't believe how fast January is flying by and that by the end of this week, I will be 4 months pregnant! I have some days where my bump does seem that big and others that it's like "Oh hello giant baby!" Even with my looser scrubs that I wear at work, this bump is getting big enough that my coworkers can start to tell that I'm actually pregnant :)

Baby is now a whopping 5 inches long from head to bottom (just found out or relearned that the length doesn't include Baby's legs) and is about the size of a pomegranate or turnip! This means that Baby is now bigger than the placenta. Baby is also starting to build some fat on his/her body, and now weighs about 5-6 ounces.

Baby keeps practicing new skills and can now do things like suck and swallow. Baby's brain has now taken over control of the heart beats and so now they are at a nice, even rhythm instead of random beats. I'm still waiting to feel Baby kick and move around, but it hopefully shouldn't be too much longer!

This week was a little rough for me since I had a cold for most of the week, which wiped out my energy and appetite. Luckily it was a fairly short-lasting cold, so I felt better in time to work my night shifts over the weekend. Thanks goodness for doctor approved cold medicines! Salty foods are still my favorite snacks, and I've shocked Josh a couple of times by saying that I don't want any chocolate.

As far as my emotions go, I've noticed that instead of getting teary or something like that, I'm more feisty, or as I told it to Josh, my "don't take no crap from no one" kind of moods, haha! I've found myself getting worked up over the smallest things and wanting to argue with people more. Luckily so far, I still have a little bit of some self-restraint (or Josh is able to calm me down) so I haven't done anything stupid yet, but I've been very tempted to stop going on Facebook for a while with all of the opinion wars flying around about the Inauguration and such. Hopefully these moods taper off soon, or you're going to have a crazy Mama Bear on the loose long before Baby actually gets here :)

Josh is just as excited as me for this little one, and rarely a day goes by that Josh doesn't want to kiss my belly. He's fascinated by how big my belly is getting and also by how my lower abdomen is getting firmer from my growing uterus. He's still not a fan of not being able to snuggle with me as much at night thanks to my giant pregnancy pillow, but I think he's come to terms with it :)

Only 3ish more weeks until we find out the gender! We love this baby so much already and can't wait for July to get here!!

  1. I wish I would have had all your perspective when I was pregnant. It sounds like you are both so happy! I am happy for you. As for fiestiness, I have felt that way on FB also! I was so hoping for the end of all the political crap! Love to you and Josh!
