Baby Guin - Month 7

April 4th

I know I keep saying this, but how are we already to the 3rd trimester?! It doesn't seem that long ago that I was taking that pregnancy test at 4:30 in the morning, and yet, here we are at 28 weeks pregnant! Josh and I can't believe how fast time is flying by, and we can't wait for this sweet little boy to get here!

This last weekend, my friend Eliza put together a baby shower for me, and it was so fun! My mom, sister, and grandma were able to come down from Montana, and my brother Justus brought my other grandparents up from Utah. Plus, a good high school friend surprised me by also showing up from Montana, and then lots of friends and family from here in Rexburg came, too! We can't thank everyone enough for the adorable gifts for our Baby Boy! He is so loved by so many already!

Weighing in at about 2.25 pounds and measuring about 15 inches long (about the size of a roller skate or a coconut), Baby Boy has now starting kicking and pushing up against the bottom of my ribs on my sides. He is especially active when I lie down to go to sleep, and one night, I could feel him up at the top right and bottom left of my belly at the same time, haha! Little Boy should also be able to start regulating his own body temperature and he can also dream!

I had the infamous glucose tolerance test this last week as well, and it actually wasn't as bad as I had heard. The drink tasted just like a melted lemon-lime Otter Pop, and while it did make me slightly queasy, I think that was more from not eating for so long before the test. But, I passed! They checked my blood counts at the same time, and my hemoglobin was a little lower than what my doctor likes for pregnant ladies, and so I have to taken iron pills for 4 weeks and see if that helps. Also, my cravings have taken a major turn towards the sugary, and so I'm trying (and often failing) to not eat too much junk food, but it just sounds so good!! Also, my nesting has started to kick in gear, and especially with all of the new baby stuff we've gotten recently, and I'm pretty sure I'm driving Josh a little crazy with wanting to put everything up now, haha!

Can't wait to see what these last few months bring!

April 11th

Happy 29 weeks! Tomorrow Josh and I will celebrate our 3rd anniversary, and it's so crazy to think that we've been married for 3 years already! If you read my blog post about our infertility struggles, you might remember that when we got married, we had originally set the goal to at least be expecting our first child by our second anniversary. It may have happened later than we originally thought, but we are so humbled and excited that we have this blessing.

Baby Boy keeps getting steadily bigger, and is about 16 inches long (the size of a pineapple), and weighs around 2.5 pounds. My pregnancy apps keep saying that I might be feeling smaller movements as Baby's space gets more cramped, but Baby Boy seems to have other ideas because my belly hasn't bounced around more crazily, it seems, haha!

As for me, I still feel huge, and at church, I sat by a girl who is due in just a few weeks, and I didn't feel much smaller than she is. But overall, nothing seems to have changed much as far as my pregnancy symptoms are concerned.

Josh and I spent a good part of the day doing some spring cleaning, and getting baby stuff organized and put into place. We've decided to have Baby Boy sleep in a pack 'n play next to our bed, so we got the bed moved over to make room, and got a lot of other baby items put away in the closet of the office. We also have about 4 plastic bins full of stuff that we're going to donate to DI, and it'll feel so nice to have more space and to get rid of things we don't really need. My nesting mode seems to be in high gear, and I feel like I should always be doing something to make sure everything's ready for Baby Boy!

April 18th

Happy 30 weeks! We are now officially 75% through this pregnancy! 10 weeks still feels like a long time, but I'm hoping it goes by as quickly as the past 30 have seem to have gone.

Baby Boy is as active as ever, and he's recently moved around more so that he ends up punching my bladder and cervix more again... He was especially active at church this last Sunday, kicking and moving almost then entire hour of Sacrament meeting - he must've been just super excited that it was Easter, haha! Josh and I also figured out an amusing way to figure out which side of my belly he's lying on. Whenever I'm lying down, when I use my abs to sit myself up, my belly gets all lopsided since one side can contract down farther than the other, haha! (Here's a picture since my description probably didn't make much sense. It's kind of hard to tell, but in person it looks hilarious!)

Anyway, Baby now weighs about 3 pounds, and is around 17 inches long (the size of a cantaloupe). His brain is getting bigger, and is starting to get the wrinkly look as grooves form on the surface which are very important by allowing an increased amount of brain tissue. He's got to have a big brain so he can remember every detail of all of the Harry Potter books :P Baby Boy is also starting to lose the soft hair that covered his whole body since he's been building up his own fat stores to keep himself warm.

As for this pregnant lady, the 3rd trimester tiredness is kicking in, and most of it is coming because I rarely sleep through the night anymore. I typically wake up at least once a night for one reason or another, and Josh says that I wake or stir easier to little noises he makes if he's coming to bed after me. Doing anything with my feet is getting increasingly difficult as well. I managed to cut and paint my toenails by myself last week, but it was quite the challenge, and I also had to have Josh tie my shoes for me before work the other night, haha! It's a good thing the weather's getting warmer because now most of my shoes can slip on and off easily.

Happy 31 weeks and happy last week of month 7!

Baby Boy is moving almost constantly it seems at times, sometimes being up and down, and then not too much later turning sideways. His kicks are now enough to make me jump or flinch sometimes, and since he's running out of room, he's also taken to just pushing everything around him. My poor organs keep getting shoved up against my ribs, which is all around unpleasant. Baby is almost at his birth length, at around 18 inches long (roughly the size of a head of romaine lettuce), but at around 3.3 pounds, he still has a lot more chubbiness to gain over the next 9 weeks. All of his senses are formed, though they will still take a while to all be mature, and the irises in his eyes can now react to light changes. He can also turn his head from side to side easily too!

This week's been a little bit more of a battle for me because I worked an extra shift at work, and so I worked 5 out of 7 nights, including a stretch of 4 shifts in a row. Two of those nights, I was sent down to work in the NICU, which I normally love, but my pregnant body did not agree with. Every 3 hours, I was up on my feet for at least an hour and a half taking vitals and doing cares for my 3 little babies, and then with nowhere to put my feet up when I was sitting charting, my poor feet swelled up like crazy, and were absolutely killing me not even halfway through my 12 hour shift. Even though I know it's super common, swollen feet/ankles was that one pregnancy symptom I had hoped to avoid, and so when I got home, in my tired, emotional state, I had a complete meltdown and wouldn't even let Josh look at how bad the swelling was. Luckily, after a couple of days of not working and being able to relax, the swelling is almost completely gone now! I doubt I will be able to keep it completely away over the next couple of months, but hopefully we can avoid the crazy swelling I had this weekend!

We can't wait for these next two months to be over so we can hold and snuggle this sweet little boy!!
